Pablo Escobar was a Colombian drug lord and the commander of the Medelln Cartel, one of the world's most powerful and dangerous criminal organizations in the 1970s and 1980s. He ascended to power by establishing a large empire of illegal drug trade, particularly in cocaine, and became one of the world's wealthiest individuals.

Escobar's life was marked by enormous wealth, power, and brutality. He was notorious for bribing government officials, assassinating rivals and political opponents, and even attacking innocent areas. Despite his enormous riches, he remained a popular figure among Colombia's poor, who saw him as a Robin Hood figure who utilized his wealth to help the less fortunate.

The Colombian government, the United States, and other countries worked for years to bring down the Medellin Cartel, and Escobar was eventually apprehended and imprisoned in 1991. He was able to escape from prison and go into hiding, though. In 1993, he was slain in a police firefight.
The story of Pablo Escobar has been the subject of several books, movies, and TV shows, the most popular of which is the Netflix original series "Narcos," which tells the story of the rise and fall of the Medellin Cartel, with Escobar as the main character, and depicts the Medellin Cartel's actions and how it was pursued by the DEA and the Colombian government. The series was critically acclaimed and ran for three seasons.
